The Scientific Patient Engagement Research Associate Director is responsible for leading and driving high priority patient-focused activities from early strategy development through planning, execution, and dissemination. This role is critical for effectively partnering internally in Janssen to develop and implement innovative patient-centered research opportunities. Responsibilities will include crafting and running patient engagement activities, including Patient Engagement Research Councils (PERCs), direct-to-patient research activities and other activities.

This role will drive and support strategy, execution, and actioning of patient engagement research activities for Medical and Scientific Affairs’ therapeutic areas to ensure an end-to-end patient voice strategy. Strong research, project management and organization skills are essential for success in this role that works with colleagues in Scientific Affairs, Medical Affairs, Commercial, R&D, HCC, legal, privacy, contracting and others.

This role will collaborate with vendor(s) to drive project progress and use scientific and research expertise and problem-solving skills to ensure all studies and engagements are successful. Furthermore, the Scientific Patient Engagement Research Associate Director will help to develop communications to share findings and standard methodologies in the organization and support the introduction of new patient-focused research generation capabilities to support and grow the broader North America Pharmaceuticals Patient Engagement strategy, capability building and implementation efforts. This associate will also act as a company spokesperson regarding dissemination and utilization of patient-focused research findings.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Services Research, Economics, Epidemiology, Pharmacy, Health Policy, or a related discipline is required; a Doctorate or other Advanced degree is preferred.

  • A minimum of 4 to 6 or more years of relevant work experience required with a strong medical or scientific background is preferred.

  • Experience engaging with patients and conducting real world evidence research applying patient-reported outcomes, retrospective data analyses, epidemiology or health services research with patient-focus is required.

  • Experience in the healthcare industry is required.

  • Clinical knowledge or practice across multiple therapeutic areas is preferred

  • Experience collaborating with advocacy groups and/or patients preferred.

  • Independent high- level planning and execution of research strategies is required.

  • Firm understanding of drug development process and regulatory standards for approval and communication of data including regulatory and healthcare compliance guidelines/policies Is required.

  • Firm understanding of United States health care systems and customers; specifically understanding unique business models and perspectives is preferred.

  • Firm understanding of the uses of evidence-based medicine and comparative effectiveness analyses for health policy decision-making is required.

  • Excellent collaboration, influencing and communication (both written and presentation) skills.

  • Advanced knowledge of Word, PowerPoint and Excel required.

  • 20% Travel required mostly national with occasional international travel.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is: $135,000 - $232,300.

  • The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
