The role you’ll contribute:

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Licensed Practical Nurse, under the direction of the Center Management (Program Director, Clinical Nurse Manager) of the Hyperbaric Medicine Department, administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Physician. This person is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems. They serve as the point person for assessment of materials appropriate for use in and around the hyperbaric chamber. The Licensed Practical Nurse will function as the Safety Director. As Safety Director they are also responsible for maintaining and educating the department with the most current applicable safety guidelines as dictated by the regulating bodies (ie NFPA-99). As Safety Director, they will also supervise competency training and adherence to standards of care (Local and or Federal Care Determinations for Hyperbaric Therapy).

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Patient preparation for treatment, inclusive of education and orientation.

• Safe administration of hyperbaric therapy as prescribed by hyperbaric provider.

• Keeps complete and accurate patient records as they pertain to treatment documentation.

• Maintains current logs, operations and maintenance documents.

• Primary responsibility for chamber operations and maintenance as well as other hyperbaric support systems (medical air, bulk oxygen). Collaborates with Program Director and Management company to coordinate and approve all hyperbaric chamber upgrades, modifications, and repairs.

• Evaluation of any equipment or supplies used in the chamber to ensure they meet all safety requirements before permitted inside the chamber. Authority to restrict or remove any potentially hazardous supply or equipment.

• Performs duties and procedures as directed by Program Director, Clinical Nurse Manager, and Medical Director.

• Supports clinical hyperbaric facility accreditation.

• Leads hyperbaric safety program activities and initiatives which include but are not limited to: quarterly safety /fire drills, review of any safety event. Maintains knowledge of safety guidelines as dictated by regulating bodies (NFPA-99, JC).

• Maintains competencies, continuing education and certifications as appropriate.

• Makes appropriate entries for daily hyperbaric treatments and wound care clinic visits including photo uploading.

• Lift patient or transfer per policy

• Tolerate pressurization and depressurization in a hyperbaric chamber. (Multiplace only).

• Comply with all department policies, procedures, practices, and standards of care.

• Performs treatments within their scope of training and administers medications to assigned patients.

• Maintains clinical record information in accordance with established standards and within established time frames.

• Develop professional and clinical skills through attendance at staff development meetings, pertinent educational activities, and professional affiliations.

• Demonstrates critical thinking skills appropriate to level of experience.

• Receives, verifies and implements physician orders.

Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed :

• Previous experience with hyperbaric wound care therapy and chronic wounds

• Operational knowledge of NFPA99, gas handling, chamber repair

• Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively and effectively with patients, visitors, staff and physicians.

• Nursing degree from an accredited nursing school (RN, LPN). Current nurse licensure in the state of Georgia.

• Strong demonstrated ability in assessment, analytical decision making and critical thinking.

• Demonstrate knowledge of nursing theory, skills, and practice.

• Positive interpersonal communication skills.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED :

· Familiarity with PC’s and computerized nursing systems and tools or demonstrated ability to learn.

· Good organization, delegation, communication skills to facilitate efficient patient care.

· Leadership ability and coordination skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• High school diploma or General Education degree (GED).

• Completion (pre or post hire) of an approved hyperbaric medicine introductory course (from Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society, National

Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology, Department of Defense of American College of Hyperbaric Medicine.

• Completion (pre or post hire) Safety Director Course and Orientation

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

· Basic Life Support

· Current License Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN) in the State of Georgia

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • Associate degree or Higher

  • Wound care experience

  • Completes Basic Wound Care Course within six months of employment.
