Job Description:

Summary/Objective:

The Line Technician position is responsible for the safe, efficient operation of all equipment on assigned line. This position favorably impacts line performance by performing preventive maintenance, creating and completing appropriate work orders, assisting and training operators as required, and providing expert-level troubleshooting and problem-solving expertise.

Essential Functions/Physical Demands: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Maintain and resolve equipment-related issues to prevent and/or correct mechanical and electrical breakdowns in a timely and effective manner for overall line performance improvements. Perform complex tasks using multiple types of tools, both hand and pneumatic/electrical tools. Troubleshoot basic electrical systems involving both AC and DC power; maintain and improve control systems; and perform PMs and work orders. Coordinate effective line set-up to ensure on-time, efficient start-ups. Operate multiple types of motorized equipment including, but not limited to, overhead lifts/forklifts/and motorized personnel carriers. Ensure efficient changeover of each piece of equipment to minimize downtime and eliminate post-changeover production problems. Make recommendations to reduce changeover times. Take responsibility for and demonstrate ability to effective perform all required PMs according to scheduled frequency and/or available downtime for same purpose (including lubrications and machine modifications designed to enhance equipment’s operational effectiveness). Become proficient in electrical and mechanical training via additional education. Further training includes using broader range of tools and becoming proficient in electrical concepts and application, both low voltage D/C to higher voltage A/C. Verify needed parts, schedule work, and log activities related to same. Validate effectiveness of work performed. Work with maintenance procurement to ensure proper and adequate parts are available to support up-time goals for line equipment. Locate parts and work order status in JDE. Gain practical knowledge and understanding of continuous improvement tools and actively work with operations to apply knowledge as appropriate. Monitor line for damaged or sub-standard product caused by machine malfunction and ensures quick resolution. Demonstrate high level of understanding of performance reporting metrics for line (e.g., yield, downtime, overpack, safety, consumer complaints, held product, etc.) and can clearly explain metrics to others. Understand, observe and comply with the handling/usage of color-coded container policy. Must be able to train other team members on process/machinery as necessary. Maintain clean, sanitary work environment and prepare work area for following shift personnel. Possess thorough understanding of all company policies, including GMPs and safety policies. Communicate effectively with other departments, managers, and other employees. Immediately notify maintenance, line operations or supervision of any repairs or adjustments required. If necessary to use powered industrial equipment, the employee must obtain certification to do so immediately. The employee may have to arrive earlier/later than normal when start-ups or changeovers to different products occur. Check schedule regularly.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, kneeling, twisting, holding, gripping, reaching, pulling, stooping, extensive bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, extensive wrist movements, and climbing all day. Work can be performed in extreme heat and cold environments. Must possess manual dexterity necessary to operate equipment and disassemble and re-assemble equipment. Must work in tight, confining areas while making multiple adjustments to equipment. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items weighing 50 pounds above shoulder level. The employee must be able to read, write, and comprehend the English language. The employee must work safely at all times and follow all OSHA (safety) guidelines.

Food Quality, Safety and Security: The employee initiates action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to food safety and the quality of the product, processes, quality or safety system. The employee stops production, if necessary, to correct food safety issues, quality issues, or safety problems. The employee identifies and records any problems relating to food safety, quality of the product, processes, quality system or safety system. The employee controls further processing or delivery of nonconforming product in terms of food safety or quality issues until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected. The employee informs line supervisor, production manager, QA manager, or other management personnel of any food safety or quality issues or of any processes which become noncompliant with specified requirements.

Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, heat, cold, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full­-time position, with rotating days off lasting a minimum of 8 hours and a maximum of 12 hours in most circumstances. The employee must be able to work overtime when required.

Travel: No travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience: High school diploma/GED is required.

Preferred Education and Experience: Two+ years of manufacturing experience is preferred.
