The Children and Family Services Department at Access: Supports for Living offers assistance for both youth and their family’s with behavioral, social, and life challenges through trauma informed care. Individuals working within the Children and Family Services Department aid in transition, advocacy, behavioral health, community based, and mentoring services as to promote healthy families and children. Our ultimate goal is to encourage and support families and youth in gaining employment, social and behavioral support, and education.

In order to intern with us, you must be enrolled in a degree program that will grant you credit hours for your internship.

To be considered for an internship placement with Access, please submit a cover letter with your application that includes the school you are attending, your degree program, details on your internship requirements, and the Access program(s) of interest to you.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

In our Community Alternatives program, an intern can expect to observe and assist the Transitional Support Services Independent Living Specialist. The Independent Living Specialist will:

  • Be working in coordination with casework staff to develop and implement a plan to coach/teach/demonstrate new skills to our youth, and in some cases, also for some of our parents.

  • Developing a plan for some young adults to obtain and maintain employment. This includes, but not limited to: Resume writing, interviewing skills, basic money management skills, time management skills, and utilizing public transportation.

    ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONAL / ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT:

  • While employment is the overall goal – developing a plan to learn all of the necessary mini-steps towards employment is a key part of this program.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Strong organization skills with accurate attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to multi- task.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • AS, BS or BA level student pursuing a Human Services degree or a degree in a related field.

    PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Must be capable to sit or stand in front of a computer for moderate-periods of time

  • Able to work in open space floor plan

  • Must be capable to move throughout work day and follow individuals

  • Work alongside individuals within 3 feet

  • Occasional lifting of > _15+pounds
