The Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP) business is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Technology Engineer at their manufacturing site in Newark, Delaware. This business unit is part of DuPont’s Electronics and Industrials (E&I) Division. E&I is comprised of a number of high-growth global businesses supplying a broad array of materials to multiple consumer electronics and industrial sectors. The CMP site in Newark produces top-pads, sub-pads and slurries used in multiple polishing steps to fabricate memory & logic chips used in computers, servers, auto and consumer electronics. The recent surge in AI/ML and the growth of advanced fabs in the USA has tremendously boosted the demand for CMP products used in advanced node chips and the DuPont Newark site is uniquely positioned to capitalize on those opportunities. The Newark manufacturing facilities consist of polymer & non-woven felt manufacturing, casting, impregnation, coating, and numerous converting operations such as skiving, grooving, buffing, laminating and finishing.

This role provides technical expertise for the various Metrologies used in the measurement and characterization of raw materials, intermediates & products involved in the CMP pads business. These metrologies include chemical/analytical measurements (eg. Chromatography, Spectroscopy); mechanical properties (eg. hardness, compressibility, tensile strength, roughness); and other material/polymer properties (eg. pore structure, viscosity, MW, light transmission). Laser systems and microscopy methods are widely used in a variety of these metrologies.

The Sr. Metrology Engineer is recognized as a leader/expert in those technologies and leads teams to upgrade current metrologies and develop new ones. The person in this role will partner with internal teams (R&D, Manufacturing, Product Quality & Raw Materials Engineering) and external vendors to specify, design, develop and implement metrologies and methods.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads multifunctional project teams in scouting, design, development and implementation of new and improved metrologies.

  • Leads efforts to qualify new/improved metrologies with customers using Gage R&R and other Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) tools.

  • Works with stakeholders to develop and maintain a prioritized projects portfolio with execution timelines & resource needs.

  • Interfaces with Production engineering teams to develop best practices for running & maintaining metrologies & their stability & capability.

  • Leads troubleshooting and root cause investigations for issues that have a metrology component.

Minimum qualifications:

  • BS, MS or PhD in Engineering, Chemistry or Material Science,

  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant industry experience.

  • Experience or prior responsibilities in project leadership.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Six Sigma certification.

  • Experience in analytical or QC Lab and with mechanical testing.

  • Demonstrated skill in use of statistical software (JMP, Minitab) and SPC principles.

  • Demonstrated ability to design complex, integrated units that includes fixturing and gantry systems that allow for high-precision measurements

  • Demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge to diagnose, troubleshoot, solve or help others solve equipment and/or process issues.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize and manage multiple, complex, time-sensitive projects.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills; must work well in globally-oriented multifunctional teams.
