HRA of New Britain, Inc. Teacher Education Instructor in New Britain, Connecticut

*Description: To create a classroom environment that will promote the growth and development of school aged children as individuals through the implementation of developmentally appropriate practices; to develop relationships with families that supports their position as primary educators of their children; to partner with Social Services Staff, and Program Administration in engaging families in the program and to monitor service quality to children and families. (children age infant to 5 years)

Primary Duties and Responsibilities (others may be assigned):*

  • Demonstrates knowledge of and compliance with State and N.A.E.Y.C. standards.
  • Plans and executes activities to enhance social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth of children.
  • Provide appropriate choices of materials and variety of equipment
  • Ensure supplies are available at all times in classrooms.
  • Provide a balance of activities (indoor/outdoor, quiet/active, individual/small group, large/small muscles, child/adult interaction)
  • Support children during transitions
  • Talks, listens, and recognizes learning opportunities during routine activities.
  • Ensure all interactions are developmentally appropriate.
  • Use positive developmentally appropriate techniques of guidance/discipline.
  • Model prosocial behavior
  • Orient children and parents to the classroom.
  • Participate in conferences with parents.
  • Assist Head Teacher with staff in classroom. Provide input and assists Head Teacher in creating individual development plans through maintenance of anecdotal records, assessments and completion of documents including lesson plans.
  • Follow protocol to limit access to authorized persons only.
  • Provide a pleasant, neat, clean, and orderly child oriented environment.
  • Follows policy on attendance of sick children.
  • Ensures supervision of children at all times.
  • Promotes childrens health development and learning at home.
  • Follows protocol in incidents of injury
  • Follows protocol and policy procedures in the administration of medicine.
  • Knows elements of developmentally appropriate lesson plans and activities that also reflect diversity, as it is reflected in the children and families.
  • Maintains accurate, comprehensive, and orderly classroom files.
  • Functions as a mandated reporter on behalf of children about whom there is the suspicion of abuse or neglect.
  • Form positive relationships with families to support childrens growth and development

Minimum requirements: 1) Education - Meet one of the following requirements:

  • A Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education from a college or University and one year of verifiable full day experience in-group care of unrelated children less than six years old.
  • An Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education from a college or university and two years verifiable full day experience in-group care of unrelated children less than six years old.
  • A Bachelors Degree in a related field or CDA Certificate with 18 credits in Early Childhood Education and one year of verifiable full day experience in-group care of unrelated children less than six years old.

2) Additional Documents

  • Provide copies of Degree and transcripts, diplomas, or the equivalent, and, if acquired, certifications on or before the hire date.
  • Provide 3 written letters of reference.
