Our state has some of the largest education disparities in the nation, but together we can help change that! Join an innovative team dedicated to advancing equity and helping all students succeed. As a Scholar Coach, you\'ll serve at a local school and be embedded in a K-3 classroom. You\'ll partner with the classroom teacher to promote scholastic engagement and help students become better readers. Every day, you\'ll also meet with students one-on-one or in pairs to provide extra practice and build skills. With training and on-site coaching, you\'ll be prepared to help kids succeed. Your commitment during school hours throughout the academic year guarantees a significant impact. This is an AmeriCorps member position with the Total Learning Classroom Initiative of Reading Corps. How You\'ll Take Action Be a caring adult who\'s focused on helping students build their skills and confidence. Track student progress and regularly meet with the school\'s on-site coach. Conduct skill assessments and enter student scores into data software. Commit to your own growth as a tutor through coaching, training, and professional development. Anyone can become a Scholar Coach as long as they have a passion to make a difference - and meet the following minimum qualifications. By the time they begin their service, our Scholar Coaches are: Dependable and have a history of good attendance. Able to understand and follow instructions. Open to making improvements based on feedback. Capable of setting a pace and maintaining a schedule with students. Competent with basic computer skills (like email and navigating online). Fluent in English for speaking, reading, and writing. 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent.
