Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking candidates to direct a team of engineers within the BWI campus area, which includes support of multiple divisions: Airborne Multifunction Sensors (AMS), Emerging Capabilities Development (ECD), Maritime & Land Sensors and Systems (MLSS), and Networked Information Systems (NIS). This position requires the candidate to be 100% onsite.

The successful candidate will join our SEIT management team in developing multifunction sensors for some of the most advanced systems in the U.S. and our allies' arsenal. These include sensors for air dominance platforms (such as the F-22, F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, F-16, SABR), bomber and strike programs (such as B-1B), airborne / maritime / ground-based missions (E-3 AWACS, E-7 MESA, TPS-80 G/ATOR, SEWIP, EA-18 Growler, and UAV systems such as Triton, Global Hawk), as well as restricted programs and missions.

The selected candidate will clearly demonstrate strong management skills and will have a track record as a motivated leader, an effective communicator, and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The candidate will demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business. Demonstrated abilities to build diverse and inclusive teams with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching, are a must. They will have an ability to operate in a team environment and collaborate across the sector business areas as required to accomplish team and department goals.

This is a dual-role manager position, involving balancing both the overall Functional oversight and management of a SEIT group of 5-10 engineers and/or interns as well as performing direct work on a program(s)/proposal(s). The candidate will spend 10% of their time on support of the organization and 90% of their time on technical direct work. The time split may fluctuate throughout the year, especially during surge recruiting and rotation months. The management indirect responsibilities involve organizational administrative activities and helping their employees' performance and career development through guidance and training. The direct program responsibilities include mission engineering, system architecture development, requirements development/management, system design/analysis, modeling & simulation, model based systems engineering, IPT/product owner leadership, integration and test, or other appropriate technical functions.

Specific management responsibilities include:

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, or other closely related technical degree, plus 5 years of experience (or Master of Science degree plus 3 years of experience) in engineering, and/or engineering program/project management

  • 5 years of progressive Systems and/or Software Engineering / Development experience

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate diverse and inclusive teams in a leadership role

  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills

  • Solid understanding of the Systems Engineering and Integration and Test processes

  • Active Department of Defense (DOD) Secret clearance

  • US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with the development, design, integration and test of advanced multifunction sensor systems, such as EOIR, RADAR, Electronic Warfare (EW), leveraging Cross Sensor Domain capabilities (tracking, BIT/Cal, GNC, LOS), or various specialty engineering capabilities

  • Advanced degree in engineering

  • Active DOD Top Secret clearance, SAP, and/or SCI access

  • Experience leading teams in a functional, programmatic or technical capacity

  • Experience with technical development programs (e.g. Pathways, FTL, SEA)

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

*This position is contingent upon the ability to obtain/maintain DoD Secret Clearance and Special Program Access (SAP) prior to starting.

Salary Range: $120,800 - $181,200

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
