Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Environmental Scientist III to join our Remediation team based in our Latham office. The successful candidate will work with a diverse team of technical leaders across a broad range of practice areas delivering professional consulting services to our key clients.

The candidate will join a large established team conducting environmental assessment and remediation projects across the New York Metropolitan area and upstate New York. This position is a field-based role, and the successful candidate will have a full time Environmental Inspector assignment on an approximate 6-month linear construction project in upstate New York. In this role you can expect to be in the field 100% of the time. Some night shift work will also be required.

The successful candidate will have excellent written and spoken communication skills, organizational and time management skills, flexibility to work on a range of projects, and a positive attitude. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the project team, clients, site personnel and office management, and have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

The successful candidate will be committed to the team’s success and growth; will rigorously apply safety policies and procedures and will effectively manage the quality of field efforts and project deliverables within the bounds of the AECOM Quality Management System.

The job responsibilities for the position will include not be limited to:

  • Field-based oversight of linear construction activities including environmental specification compliance auditing and contractor management.

  • Field-based oversight of environmental investigation and remediation programs. Field work may include soil, sediment, surface water and/or groundwater sampling, operation and maintenance of remedial systems, and remedial construction oversight including contractor management.

  • Coordinate and prepare written reports, work plans, and technical memorandums; analyze data and develop supported conclusions.

  • Work collaboratively with other teams within the Remediation department, and professionals across AECOM internal business lines.

  • Proactively identify opportunities to increase project efficiencies, improve technical methodologies and add value to client service offerings

  • Assist with development of junior staff through ongoing mentoring.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS in Geology, Environmental Science, or related field + 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Current OSHA 40-hr Hazardous Waste Operations Training

  • Valid U.S Driver's License and as a condition of employment, must pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records Review

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, or related field

  • 5+ years of experience performing and leading site investigations that included soil/groundwater/vapor sampling, soil boring/monitoring well installations with various drilling techniques (i.e., DPT, HSA, sonic, air rotary, mud-rotary, etc.), analytical data interpretation and reporting

  • Current OSHA 30-Hr Construction Training

  • Experience with CERCLA and RCRA remediation programs at complex sites

  • Linear construction management experience

  • Working on projects subject to NYSDEC regulatory oversight and Superfund programs.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $80,000.00 - $100,000.00.
