Job Summary:

The Intensive Treatment Program (ITP) will include working with adolescents, typically 12 - 18 years old that are diagnosed on the Autism spectrum with mental health concerns and developmental or intellectual disabilities. Provide occupational therapy services to individuals as outlined in their Individual Education Plan or Treatment Plan. Services are to be provided in accordance with New York State practice act guidelines for Occupational Therapy Services, the American Occupational Therapy Association as well as in accordance with all company, state and federal standards and regulations; as well as within all regulations and requirements set forth by the organizations with which the company collaborates. Responsible for planning of developmentally appropriate recreational activities, in collaboration with Recreation Therapist, for individuals with Autism, Intellectual Disability, and/or mental illness.

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Reviews all available documentation related to the individual prior to beginning treatment; including the IEP, script and prior evaluations if available.

  2. Develops an appropriate treatment plan for each individual.

  3. Performs school-based treatments according to IEP and accepted professional standards and practices.

  4. Incorporates sensory protocols, as appropriate, in residential and educational environments.

  5. Trains others on sensory management and self-regulation strategies for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

  6. Plans developmentally appropriate recreational activities for youth in residential setting, in collaboration with Recreation Therapist.

  7. Conducts ongoing assessment of individual during each visit, and modifies goals/outcomes/treatment plan accordingly.

  8. Performs appropriate parent/caregiver education and develops home programs as necessary.

  9. Works as part of a multidisciplinary team, utilizing communication with all team members to enhance the treatment program of the individual.

  10. Maintains an accurate schedule.

  11. Submits all required documentation of visits according to established procedure.

  12. Performs evaluations as assigned and when necessary.

  13. Communicates with families on a regular basis.

  14. Keeps abreast of legal responsibilities, professional ethics, standards of practice and agency rules, policies and regulations.

  15. Provides for own professional growth by attending continuing education and in-services; tracking this to assure compliance with state licensing requirements.

  16. Discontinues therapy when child no longer meets eligibility requirements.

  17. Maintains client confidentiality with HIPPA/FERPA and agency guidelines.

  18. Attends department meetings and any other meetings required by supervisor.

  19. Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by their direct supervisor.

Education:

Minimum Degree Required:

Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy

Master's Degree preferred

Experience:

Minimum Experience Required:

1-2 years prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities

License/Registration/ Certification:

• Current New York State Occupational Therapy License and Registration

• Current NYS Driver's License

Training:

• Minimum of 36 hours of Continuing education per licensing period (3 years) as per NYS Office of Profession guidelines

• All required agency trainings (including Applied Behavior Analysis, SCIP-R)

• All trainings required by programs in which you service individuals

Physical Requirements:

The frequent physical demands of the position are sitting, standing, walking, climbing, talking, listening, repetitive motions, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling of children and grasping.
