There may or may not be actual vacancies filled. Responsibilities You will pump manholes, uses shovel and pick, rods ducts and pulls and reconnects cables. You will repair panels by isolating defective electronic components and repair or replacing as necessary. You will maintain the electronic control consoles located at each Base Fire Alarm Headquarters. You will be responsible for the operation, adjustment and repair of all master alarm boxes, associated underground cables, master circuits, vocal systems, ticker circuits, mechanical registers, time and date stamps and back-up recording systems. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of an Electronics Mechanic without more than normal supervision performing the following duties: 1) Installs, maintains and repairs master fire alarm systems; 2) Installs, adjusts, times and cleans master boxes; rewires and rebuilds as necessary and wires and connects to building auxiliary circuits and base master circuits; 3) Analyzes the operation of all modular components and adjusts or repairs as necessary to maintain fire alarm monitoring and transmitting equipment; and 4) Modifies systems and sub-systems in electronic panels in order to adapt internal circuitry to system requirements. Several vacancies may be filled. This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Active use of arms, hands, and legs is required in all phases of the work. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds. May be required to lift and carry items weighing more than 50 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or assistance from other workers. The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping. Climbing and working in high places may be required. Some work may require the aid of magnifying lenses, eye loops, and microscopes to accomplish repairs on miniature components. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is generally performed in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Work is sometimes performed under conditions of heat and cold and outside in inclement weather. They are exposed to the possibility of electric shock; burns from electrical or RF energy or hot solder; and cuts and bruises.
