General Summary:

Accountable for purchasing goods and services as needed by Unum internal business partners. Serves as a governance function to ensure internal customers are aware of and abide by procurement policies for engaging approved suppliers. Approves purchase requisitions after careful review for completeness, compliance to sourcing / buying channel strategies as well as internal compliance requirements and proper approval authority. Prepares and issues purchase orders and change orders, based on approved requisitions, utilizing the purchasing system. Follows-up on purchase orders to expedite delivery and shipment. Collaborates with internal departments to coordinate procurement activities and maintains supplier performance levels.

  • Review requisitions for adherence to Unum policies and compliance to sourcing strategies.

  • Convert compliant requisitions to purchase orders according to existing contracts.

  • Work with internal business partners to fix non-compliant requisitions and educate them on ways to ensure compliance in the future.

  • Liaison with suppliers as main day-to-day contact point.

  • Resolve order discrepancies; ensure timely supplier payment through mismatch resolution, including monitoring and eliminating after-the-fact purchase orders.

  • Proactive management of demand and manage the purchase order burn-rate process, including feedback to the respective category manager.

  • Optimize the Procure-to-Pay buying channels for goods and services and cross-train in all goods categories to perform goods purchasing for all Unum products.

  • Collect and maintain catalog data (e.g. pricing, category specific attributes, descriptions, images, pricing, minimum quantity orders, use of hierarchy / taxonomy coding, datasheets, etc.).

  • Monitor supplier performance and provides inputs to Supplier Relationship Management Performance Measurement activities surrounding Delivery and Responsiveness of the suppliers.

  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

  • BS degree or equivalent work experience required

  • Minimum 3 – 5 years buying experience preferred

  • IT Procurement experience preferred

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite

  • Superior oral and written communication skills to relay information clearly and effectively to all constituents, including senior management

  • Excellent writing and documentation skills with a strong command of the English language

  • Works well in dynamic environment

  • Good interpersonal, financial, and team skills

  • Independent decision-making skills

  • Ability to work cross-site, cross-function and cross-company with business partners to roll out strategic programs

  • Ability to influence others to achieve results without direct control or authority

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$45,600.00-$82,100.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
