ESSA Bank & Trust Community Development Mortgage Professional in Allentown, Pennsylvania

ESSA Bank & Trust has a new job opportunity for an experienced Bilingual (English/Spanish) Community Development Mortgage Loan Originator.  We are searching for a candidate who enjoys engaging with home buyers as well as realtors who are assisting buyers in the community. The Mortgage Loan Officer will represent ESSA Bank & Trust in the assigned region to establish qualifying Community Reinvestment Act mortgage lending opportunities. The candidate will focus on generating applications and originations in Low to Moderate income census tracts and Majority Minority census tracts within the region. The Community Development Mortgage Loan Originator position is based in Allentown, PA.

This is a salaried paid position with additional commission potential based on production.

Basic Qualifications of the Community Development Mortgage Loan Originator:

 

  • Education/Training:  Bachelors' degree preferred. Degree requirements may be offset by mortgage industry experience.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Skills:

  • Proficient understanding of the residential mortgage business development process
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office: especially Word and Excel, knowledge; mortgage bot lending system preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem resolution and decision-making ability
  • Proven initiative to be a self-starter with proactive approach
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision

  • Knowledge of residential mortgage lending products including FHA, VA and USDA loans.

Experience: 

A minimum of five years of progressive mortgage or banking industry experience, including at least two years in a sales/production role.

 

General Responsibilities of the Community Development Mortgage Loan Originator:

Represent ESSA Bank in assigned region to establish qualifying Community Reinvestment Act mortgage lending opportunities. Engaging with home buyers as well as community agencies and realtors assisting buyers with a focus on generating applications and originations in Low to Moderate income census tracts and Majority Minority census tracts within the region. 

Essential Duties:

 Source and solicit residential mortgages.

  • Outside sales activities will make up approximately 70% or more of the expected job duties.
  • At least 70% of originations should be in Low Moderate Income and Majority Minority Census Tracts.

     

  • Develop and cultivate relationships with realtors, housing authorities, and appropriate community groups to expand referral networks and ensure meaningful connections with homebuyers.

  • Participate in Community Reinvestment Act activities and events including but not limited to financial and home buying literacy programs, Bank sponsored activities, and other community activities geared toward enhancing the lives of low to moderate income families and families residing in majority minority census tracts in the communities in which we do business.
  • Follow Bank procedures and Regulatory guidelines from application process, through processing and closing of the residential mortgage. This includes a core understanding of the applicant's financial circumstances and if the applicant will qualify.
  • Collaborate with business partners in consumer lending and retail lending to strengthen community interaction and resources for referrals.
  • Strong collaboration with CRA Officer. 
  • Maintain proper federal licensing through the NMLS and comply with all training, testing and background check requirements to obtain / retain an NMLSR number.
  • Comply with Truth in Lending and Safe Acts and NMLS standards regarding any lending activity falling with these regulations and guidelines, including properly applying for and renewing the MLO number, complying with any background checks associated with obtaining an MLO number. 
  • Understand and comply with the aspect of the employment relationship and guidelines in the Mortgage Loan Officer Compensation Agreement.
  • Compliance with all regulatory requirements such as, but not limited to, BSA/AML, GLB/Privacy, Ethics for Bankers, and Pretext Calling and Identity Theft. Completion of Compliance Training to ensure understanding of these requirements, as outlined in the Bank's core curriculum and this positions specific curriculum.
  • Actively participates in community organizations and activities in a manner which reflects favorably on the Bank.
